I wrote my first story at age 6, about Clover the Unicorn. At 14, I wrote my first book, about a woman pilot trying to join an elite flying club after World War II.
I have an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in Comparative Politics from the University of Glasgow, and a master’s degree in International Energy and Environmental Policy and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University.
I draw inspiration from forgotten women in history. Sometimes it’s a snippet of a story from my family tree. Sometimes it’s a line about someone’s mother or sister or daughter in a history book. I believe history tells us the what, where, when, and how. Historical fiction gives us the who… who they were, how they felt and lived in their world.

I have lived in England, Scotland, Italy, Washington, DC, Montana, and Texas. I currently live in northern California.
